Selina Sofia Viitanen

Selina Sofia Viitanen is a visual artist born and raised in a small rural town in Finland. Her practice is informed by her personal philosophies on the meaning of human existence, searching for purpose and reason for being.

 

She raises a question against the human understanding of how we perceive humanity in contrast to the world around us, underlining the fragility of human knowledge and the limiting idea of truth. In her latest work, through ideas of metamorphosis of the human-animal, she explores suppression of the human condition and the dehumanising nature of contemporary society.
